ABOUT dMOM

The project, named “Improving Maternal and Child Health for Ethnic Minority Women in Vietnam at scale using digital health” or dMOM, comprises both a phone text message (SMS) intervention and a pilot mobile application intervention integrated into the Mother and Child Healthcare App of the Ministry of Health. Its overarching aim is to formulate a deliberate strategy for sustaining and expanding upon the mMOM project, previously funded by IDRC (2013–2016), to enhance maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) behaviors and outcomes. This includes addressing adverse gender norms and fostering the empowerment of women residing in hard-to-reach areas.

Managed by the Institute of Population, Health, and Development (PHAD) in collaboration with the Department of Maternal and Child Health, Ministry of Health, the project runs from May 2022 to May 2025. The project includes a large multidisciplinary research team. It operates in Dinh Hoa, Vo Nhai, and Song Cong district in Thai Nguyen province, as well as Muong Cha and Dien Bien Phu in Dien Bien province.

The project is funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada.
