Rehabilitation Equipment Handover Ceremony in Binh Dinh_Hold my Hand project

BINH DINH, August 12th, 2020 – At Binh Dinh Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital (Campus 1), Binh Dinh Department of Health, the Institute of Population, Health and Development (PHAD) and the received units officially organized “Handover Ceremony of Speech therapy and Occupational therapy equipment for rehabilitation service providers” in Binh Dinh. The event is under the “Hold my hand” project to strengthen multidisciplinary rehabilitation capacity for medical facilities in Binh Dinh, thereby supporting persons with severe disabilities (PWSDs) in Binh Dinh and other nearby provinces.

The project provides equipment for rehabilitation units in hospitals, medical facilities and special education centers in Binh Dinh. This activity is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), implemented by the PHAD. The units receiving equipment include Quy Hoa National Leprosy – Dermatology Hospital; Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital; Binh Dinh General Hospital; Bong Son General Hospital; District and Town Health Centers in Hoai Nhon, An Nhon, Phu Cat, Phu My, Tay Son and Tuy Phuoc districts; Hoang Thi Phat Early Intervention Center; Hy Vong Quy Nhon Special School; Limited Company of Asia – Europe Education Development Company Limited.

Representative of Binh Dinh Department of Health, Mr Ha Anh Thach, thanked sincerely for the sponsorship of USAID, PHAD and CRS. He admits that the project activities have contributed to the improvement of capacity to provide rehabilitation services for treatment units. Ms Le Thi Thuy Huong, Program Management Specialist, Sponsor Representative, gave a brief speech sharing the contributions of projects funded by USAID in enhancing the quality and efficiency of rehabilitation services as well as improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities. In the ceremony, Deputy Executive Director of PHAD, Mr Vu Cong Nguyen shared about the meaning of providing equipment for medical facilities and PWDs.

Along with providing medical equipment, the project “Hold my hand” has been supporting medical facilities in Binh Dinh to improve the staff capacity to provide speech therapy and occupational therapy sessions through long-term training courses in Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University. The project has cooperated with the Department of Health, district health centers and all 159 communes/wards across the province in training on using the Disability Information System (DIS).

It is expected that by the end of the project, at least 600 PWDs will benefit directly from home-based care, 1400 PWDs will benefit from multidisciplinary rehabilitation. 10 health facilities and 03 special education institutions can provide multi-disciplinary rehabilitation services and early intervention support for children in Binh Dinh.
